Parents,
Overton County Schools is in the process of evaluating weapons detection systems. Although we have not had any issues with weapons on our school campuses, we want to be proactive and take every measure possible to ensure our schools are safe. As part of this evaluation, we are inviting one of the potential vendors, Xtract One, to demonstrate this product at Livingston Academy on Thursday March 6, 2025. This system is a walkthrough scanner that uses AI technology to identify weapons without students having to remove personal items from themselves or bags. Students will simply walk between two columns at the main entrance of Livingston Academy.
We believe a walkthrough system like this will help improve school safety, while not impacting the traditional school atmosphere. Systems like the Xtract One are used throughout the United States at sporting events, concerts, and other large venues. It is designed to quickly and effectively detect weapons without impeding the normal flow of entering the building.
On Thursday March 6, 2025, we ask that students arrive a little early, if possible, to help ensure everyone gets to class on time. All students will enter the main entrance near the front office. The scanner will be set up and students will simply walk through and enter the building.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we explore new ways to improve safety.
